Inclusive Innovation in the Asia Pacific Region2013 - 2014

In 2013, I took part in the Canada-Asia 2013 conference and the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) General Assembly. As part of the student program, we were asked to develop a policy brief for the participants. My group focused on “Inclusive innovation in the Asia Pacific Region” and I was tasked with managing this project, which was finalized in April 2014.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles with DRDC2019

In 2019, I worked with Defence Research and Development Canada as a subcontractor (via LDC Solutions) to support their Survivability and Lethality Analysis Modelling (SLAM) analysis on unmanned aerial systems (UASs).  As the system expert, I:

  • Developed CAD models of the unmanned aerial systems being studied. These models were used by the SLAM software.
  • Performed a fault tree analysis on the UAS systems, identifying their modes of failure
  • Put together several reports highlighting the findings of the analysis for each UAS, and the models developed in the process
  • Supported the import of the information to the SLAM software and performing the analysis

Kajotec Inc.2012

In 2012, I worked for about a month at Kajotec as an Industrial Designer, contributing to the design of the following systems:

  • A waste water management system for residential buildings
  • Completion of the design of Eco-mousetrap, Eco-toilet, Eco-charger This was a government funded internship which was supposed to last for 6 months. The GEI program terminated the internship due to the employer (Kajotec) being unable to pay its contribution to the salary.

Moon Village Association Implementation Support Officer2020 - 2021

  • Develop infrastructure and internal policies and key performance indicators for the organization, and help in their use
  • Attend board meetings and other strategic development initiatives
  • Coordinate the Global Network of the MVA, creating the national and regional structures in use today
  • Manage membership issues
  • Coordinate communication activities (web, social media)
  • Organized the first Towards the Moon Generation Workshop, leading to the creation of a new working group focused on next generation activities

NIT.RED2016

In 2016, I took part in the Innovation for Change, an entrepreneurship focused program organized by Politecnico di Torino, SAFM (Business School of Turin) and CERN.

Fellow, Open Lunar Foundation2024

I was assigned the hunch “Registry of Accidents and Issues”, the analysis of which led to the proposal and whitepaper for the Lunar Accidents, Incidents and Issues Reporting System (LAIIRS).

2020 Autonomous Vehicle Technical Report  with Wevolver2019 - 2020

I was the managing editor for this publication. In this role, I:

  • Developed general outline for the report, and the style guide used by authors
  • Hire writing staff and communicate with expert to develop content for the report
  • Review outlines and written contributions from staff, providing feedback if needed
  • Write segments, edit, and proofread the report  The report may be accessed here.

Short-term Projects2018 - present

  • Development of a human-powered aircraft concept (2023)
  • Writing grants focused on Government of Canada contracts and programs (2018 - 2022)
  • Develop storylines for a science communication kids program (2020)
  • Management consulting blog posts focused on AI in supply chains (2019)
  • Development of an android app to control a LIDAR-based serving robot (2018) Information of the clients for the above projects can be shares upon request.

ITN WALL: Micromagnetic simulation and analytical modeling of magnetic domain wall motion in nanostructures

Summary

Under the Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) WALL, I worked on the project “Analytical modelling of magnetic domain wall dynamics” at the Collective Phenomena in Physics & Materials Science group at ISI Foundation. In parallel, I completed a PhD in Physics at the Politecnico di Torino. image image

About the Project

ITN-WALL was created to study magnetic domain walls (DWs), the interfaces separating magnetic domains. Manipulation of these in nanostructures may lead to the next generation of new and low power functional devices for computation and communication. The project had 7 main partners and 12 associate partners from Italy, Germany, France, the UK, Belgium, Spain and Switzerland. My role was to use model reduction to come up with simplified models to describe the dynamics of magnetic domain walls. I extended the collective coordinate approach based on a Lagrangian-formulation to include phenomena important in domain wall motion in perpendicular magnetic anisotropy heterostructures with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction under the application of in-plane fields, out of plane magnetic fields, and currents. I also used micromagnetic simulations to perform more detailed studies on these systems. As part of this project, I also collaborated on other projects including:

  • Collaboration with Ghent University on the development and comparison of a semi-analytical collective coordinate model derived from statistical methods
  • A one month research stay at the University of Salamanca to study domain wall motion under in-plane fields, and the effect of local anisotropy variation on domain wall motion
  • A one month research stay at University of Paris Sud-Paris Saclay CNRS (cut short due to flooding in Paris)
  • A two week stay at IBM Research Zurich where I studied the structure of anomalous domain walls, and performed micromagnetic studies on magnetic tunnel junctions
  • Regular visits to the National Metrological Institute of Italy (INRiM)

    Achievements

  • Development of extended collective coordinate models for the analysis of magnetic domain wall motion under magnetic fields and currents
  • Contribution to the study of creep phenomena in magnetic systems through numerical simulations in Mumax3
  • Publication of 6 peer reviewed papers and presentation of 13 talks and 15 posters at international conferences
  • Organization of the Second Marie Curie School on Domain Walls and Spintronics held in Spetses, Greece.
